A community bank with multi-state and international branch operations archives more than a terabyte of historical records in FusionLRS instead of loading them into its new core, meeting a compressed conversion timeline while keeping legacy documents seconds away.
Bank of the Orient was working against a tight deadline ahead of its core conversion to FIS. The bank had to decide what to do with more than a terabyte of historical data that examiners, customers, and staff would still need on demand. SRM (Strategic Resource Management), the bank’s conversion consulting and implementation partner, introduced the team to FIntegrate. After weighing whether to fold its legacy data into FIS or stand it up separately, the bank chose FusionLRS, FIntegrate’s browser-based legacy data platform.
The results came quickly. More than 1 TB of data was ingested over a single weekend in roughly 24 hours, the FIS go-live happened exactly on schedule, and the bank avoided costly legacy conversion and retention fees from its prior vendor. Staff now retrieve historical documents in seconds.
“They are accommodating, and they can do what they say they can do,” said Eleanor Dolorfino, Director of Central Processing at Bank of the Orient. “They do not oversell and overpromise. We are very happy with them.”
The Challenge: A Terabyte of History and a Compressed Timeline
More than a terabyte of historical data had accumulated across years of branch operations, and that data carried real compliance weight. By June, the team was evaluating whether that history could be folded into the new FIS core or whether a better option existed.
Guidance from SRM made it clear that the traditional core route would not deliver what the bank needed on day one.
“Relying on the core was the traditional option, but legacy information would not have been available on day one or day two,” Dolorfino said. “That is why we selected FIntegrate.”
Finding the Right Fit: Legacy Data Outside the Core
Mapping data and converting files internally would have consumed staff time the bank did not have to spare. SRM introduced FusionLRS as a purpose-built application that improves access to historical documents and removes the staff burden of mapping and converting data, at a fraction of the cost of a traditional core conversion.
The new core could likely have handled check images, but it could not pull historical reports. FusionLRS delivered both, on budget and ahead of schedule.
A Coordinated, Well-Supported Implementation
The technical work ran in structured phases. Alongside SRM, FIntegrate worked directly with the bank to collect legacy data, reconcile data transfers (a step core vendors often leave out), and update FusionLRS as additional gap data sets arrived. Because the legacy data was not immediately compatible with the new core, FIntegrate formatted customer-facing data for ingestion while maintaining strict data security throughout.
“They were always on top of things and always able to answer questions or address items,” said Edward Villegas, IT Operations Coordinator. “We hardly had to do anything. We provided the information, the hard drives, and the files, and FIntegrate took care of everything.”
FIntegrate’s cross-vendor experience kept every party moving in parallel. Just over a terabyte of historical data arrived on a Friday and was fully loaded into FusionLRS by Saturday, ready for staff review in roughly 24 hours.
Results: On-Schedule Go-Live and Faster Document Retrieval
Bank of the Orient reached its FIS go-live on schedule. When access to the legacy core ended, the switch to FusionLRS was immediate and uneventful, and the bank no longer pays its prior vendor’s retention fees.
Operations staff now fulfill customer requests for historical records through the FusionLRS browser interface, pulling documents in seconds.
“It is very intuitive, very fast, and easy to work in,” Villegas said. “We can pull things quickly compared to what we were using before with our prior vendor.”
Looking Forward: A Proven Partnership
For SRM, the project reinforced the value of a dependable legacy data partner during a core conversion.
“Any conversion is a difficult undertaking,” said Jeff Ostheimer, Managing Director Technology at SRM. “Having a successful and proven partnership with FIntegrate allows us to keep our commitments to clients while delivering on tight timelines and preserving significant amounts of historical data.”
“Our goal is to give financial institutions control over their data, not to lock them into someone else’s system,” said Kris Bishop, CEO of FIntegrate Technology. “We really appreciate the confidence SRM has in our team to get it right on time, every time.”
